I Wondered Why People Weren’t Calling Like Last Year Then I Realized – No Riots! BUT….

You know what’s odd? This year things have finally gone quiet (our first break in over 2 years). Finally, I asked myself WHY? When stuff like this photo keep happening every day? We provide security to “armor” glass from breach by humans and mother nature. We’ve been covered up with work for years.

Then it dawned on me. Unlike last year we are not having RIOTS! That unrest motivated a lot of business last year. We had an election and everyone was on edge. Two major hurricanes skimmed past us in Texas to wallop Louisiana.

This year: No riots. We had Hurricane Nicholas and people shrugged it off. Things change. But the situation hasn’t changed.

People with glass still need us more than they know. Burglars haven’t retired. Storms will come again with more dangerous winds. We are in a temporary calm.

So, like any business, we adjust, just like everyone has had to adjust during the pandemic. We have become more pro-active. Hardly anyone knows what “security film” is — even though they need it if they have glass windows and doors, which provide a false sense of security.

Don’t believe me? Go home tonight and hit one of your home windows with a brick and see how fast it disappears. What happened to your security? What happens if its a human or a windstorm blowing in through that breach?

Do it again at your office. That’s all it takes to be insecure and vulnerable in a world that is still a dangerous place, even when the sun is out and weather is calm.

There is a short video on our website where I do that for you – hitting a glass slider with a baseball bat. And again, with our film on it. See the difference.

Armor Glass is providing that security to the weakest link of every building on the planet, the glass. Let us protect you and your property before the next incident happens. Free quotes.

How to “Get Prepared” for Hurricane season

Its HURRICANE season folks. Get prepared. But what does “get prepared” include?  DON’T do what the guy in the photo is doing!

Obviously, it means having a plan. A “Go” bag for a quick departure if you are in the forecast zone for impact. But what about your biggest investment – your house? Or your office? How do you prepare it from hurricane-force winds?

The weakest link of every building is the glass – when it is breached by hurricane-force winds, the building is pressurized as the winds try to find a way out. That “out” is what uplifts the roof and pushes the walls out. When IKE hit Houston it blew out windows over 100 miles inland.

Plywood is heavy and expensive and a suicide mission to get on a 2nd floor. Shutters are very expensive and don’t protect from heat or burglars when up.

Security Film “armors the glass” from breach while at the same time it is cutting solar heat and UV from entering the building – or a burglar with a brick. It costs a fraction of impact glass or shutters.

Lets the first part of “getting prepared” you should do. Harden your buildings’ envelop by upgrading the glass which is an accident waiting to happen.

This also protects your home or office while you are gone. And saves on energy. Check us out at:

Traveling for Break In Protection – & Record Year for Hurricanes

The crew is in Austin this week working on a commercial/industrial building that has had issues with people jumping there fence and bashing in a window to steal stuff. Its a several day job.
A couple weeks ago we were in San Antonio putting our silver film on a religious building (sorry, but need to keep that confidential for their protection). They were worried about terrorism.
That is the great thing about our product – the same film protects from hurricanes as well as shooters.
In 2020 we had a record number of hurricanes – 30. Twelve (12) of them hit the USA and 3 hit Louisiana. Not to load you up with bad news but the weather pros say a “La Nina” is forming which will INCREASE next years Atlantic storm season, so the threat is growing.
Regardless of threat, human or from Mother Nature, Armor Glass security film is working 24/7/365 at the same time cutting solar heat and harmful UV, for a fraction of the cost of the alternative shutters and impact glass.

Mother Nature Could Give us DOUBLE Whammy. COVID19 AND Hurricane!!

Picture this.

We have yet to peak COVID19 which is forcing people to stay home, often without a paycheck. But its necessary as deaths have topped 40,000 so far in just the USA. The stay at home orders could go on for weeks as this progresses.

If that weren’t trouble enough, Mother Nature won’t be giving us a pass this storm season. Tornadoes are already blowing out windows causing building collapse, injuries, and death. Hurricanes will soon be joining them in wreaking havoc.

Because the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico waters are at record temperatures, experts predict an “above-average” year for hurricanes. We could see one or more hurricanes threaten the east or south coast just as we hope the virus is diminishing (at least round 1).

Imagine how horrible that would be –stuck home isolating followed by hurricane-force winds blowing in the glass, which uplifts the roof and pushes out the walls. People will have to mingle to deal with the tragedy, which could spread the disease further.

That bizarre series of events is entirely possible. Why? Because the hurricane forecast for 2020 is “above” average for storms, which gets back to the hotter ocean waters which are like Jet Fuel for Hurricanes.

This puts Armor Glass in a quandary too – because our installers are valuable assets that we cannot risk falling to a virus that has a death rate 50 times that of the flu. But yet they are needed to protect more places from the coming storms as well as the present-day burglar disease. And the school shooter disease (dealt a blow by Covid19 with all schools now closed).

Today we are only installing in EMPTY buildings, so far, at least through April. After that, facts and science along with the total days spent in isolation of potential clients will determine when we can “armor the glass” in an occupied space. After all, close contact is a risk to the client as well as our crew, who are following isolation protocols.

We have received a steady number of quote requests despite covid19. Because security from Mother Nature includes more than the invisible Covid19. It includes the visible wrath of hurricanes and tornadoes with will not going away because its an inconvenient time for another disaster.

So here we are – needing to protect ourselves from both. We can do it, thoughtfully and safely, one step at a time. This blog will keep you updated on our status. In the meantime, feel free to inquire at Info@ArmorGlass.com

New COVID19 Policy on Installations –

April 1 2020
For Immediate Release

No joke. We have a Pandemic and there is no “business as usual.” Therefore, Armor Glass issues the following statement:

Due to COVID, we are either (1) delaying installs of our anti-burglary/hurricane/shooter security film until after the worst has passed (hopefully May–Houston expects the peak to be around May 2)

OR

(2) installing on OUTSIDE of glass (normal is on the inside) if a client considers installation an emergency and doesn’t mind the outside install does not come with a warranty ,

OR

(3)  installing it the usual way on the INSIDE because it is safe to do so because the space is either vacant or the occupants have self-isolated long enough not to pose a risk to our crew (a minimum 14 days.)

Our No. 1 priority is the health and safety of our staff and crew because, without them, we have nothing. Yes, the security provided by our product is essential, so is a safe working environment in installing it.

None of us can afford to take risks these days since COVID has killed young and old alike.  Until COVID19, installation safety has not been an issue so this is a first. If the occupant has not been self-isolating, then that is NOT a safe environment for our crew to enter — not until the peak has passed and “stay-at-home” orders are lifted.

Inside installs carry a warranty but not outside installs due to weatherization over time.

It is already tornado season and Hurricane season approaches, so we face a quandary. Home-wrecking storms don’t care that we are experiencing a Pandemic and hunkering down when the windows blow out from debris strikes on fragile glass by 100 mph-plus winds, uplifting the roof and letting in the rain.
Pandemics don’t stop burglars, especially with people out of work, short of money and only a think fragile piece of glass stands between them and forced entry.

So, day by day, we will take calls and answer emails and provide quotes and do select installations, inside or outside, whichever is safe.

As CEO, I wanted you to know the situation and how we are balancing an essential need versus the safety of our people and our clients who are people like you. –Michael Fjetland.

Coronavirus Leaves Empty Office Buildings ripe for Break-ins We Can Stop

Our crews continue to operate as we are an essential security industry. Hurricanes and burglars are not going to take a vacation due to a virus.  We are practicing social distancing and have always worked in isolation.

Coronavirus has emptied offices and buildings across America. Our products provide both security from break-ins and storm damage, but also saves energy and blocks harmful UV.

Coronavirus is a security threat in more ways than one.  Burglars prefer to strike empty buildings. Normally that means they hit homes during working hours and commercial buildings at night. With Covid19, everyone is staying home, so the vulnerable buildings are now closed storefronts and office buildings.

Empty buildings and reduced security personnel make them ripe for burglars to break in via the weakest link – the glass. It takes only a second to smash a large tempered glass window and be in and out of a space in less than a minute or two. It’s classic “smash and grab.”

Armor Glass (a U.S. registered Trademark) security films “armor the glass” to avoid the grab after the smash. They also cut solar heat and dangerous UV, saving energy at the same time, making it both security and carbon negative. It is the same film that was installed on the Pentagon and all federal buildings after 911 because it is also rated for explosions on top of hurricane-force winds and large missile impact.

That’s why we also put it on schools for shooter protection — as we are this week while the school is closed. We are an essential industry providing security by hardening your buildings’ protective envelop from breach by humans and mother nature.

Few people are aware of this technology that is a vast improvement over thin solar films that only block the sun but have zero security properties. Armor Glass does both!

Coronavirus Update – It won’t stop Threats from burglars and hurricane-force winds

Our past crazy week.

Things are popping here at Armor Glass despite the coronavirus. In the past WEEK, we:

  • adopted an updated New logo that you can’t miss – makes it clear we sell a film that armors glass, not glass.
  • We acquired a New automated software program for handling our inquiries, work orders, scheduling – it lets us create and send work orders while tracking how well sales reps are doing and what taxes we owe. It does everything but make coffee, so thankfully it won’t take that job from me! All of it automatically goes to Quickbooks.  The paperwork burden was just cut 80% or more.   We STARTED training on it today.

Last Tuesday I was sent an email about a large project in another city – they had already done the walkthrough and perhaps they weren’t impressed with who turned up. They must have found us online because they sent us an email invitation to bid, with the bid date extended to give us only a few days to meet it (one week).

With the uncertainty about coronavirus possibly impacting our business, I did not want to pass it up.  Besides, we are one of the few companies certified by the manufacturer to install security film and one of fewer still who do it 100% of the time.  Not having us bid is almost negligence on their part! Lol.

So I drove for 8 hours Thursday on a beautiful day and got to the project city. Then in the night, the skies opened up as if we are under a nonstop waterfall. It continued all day Friday while I reviewed the project, trying not to get sick for obvious reasons as I had to duck in and out of buildings and get to the open parking lot without drowning.

Visual inspection of the building revealed that it has far more windows than the architect and documents say. Oops.  We spent one last night under pounding rain with thunder, lighting and a non-stop assault of cold rain on the RV, with the heater going full blast. We woke up to a chilly wet 41 degrees.

So I drive back 8 hours Saturday after taking dogs for a break in the rain. They were not excited about it but did their business like good little boys, jumped back in the RV, got under their blankets and we rolled back to home base. By the time we hit Texas, the rain had gone and the air was getting warmer and more comfortable. It felt great!

Compiled project size numbers on Sunday.  On Monday, double-checked the numbers and completed all paperwork — but could not get a bid bond in time due to coronavirus slowdown; their agents were home and could not access the office system, so I had to send the quote to meet the deadline with a cashiers check for 5% as a guarantee that we can perform (that was first time in 12 years anyone even asked for a bond).

Today it is sunny in Houston and we are working online and the phone as always. Since our crew always works isolated, that isn’t a problem.

Our sales rep team is also self-isolating as recommended, but meeting with potential clients is still OK since it is less than 10 people and no one will be shaking hands. I like the idea of doing the hands folded Namaste greeting for a while. Lol.

Standby for updates. One of our delayed projects is a school, which may remain empty for a month, or more. The world has gone upside down.

But viruses won’t stop burglars and the next round of hurricane-force winds from jeopardizing peoples’ security. Don’t stay home or leave it without Armor Glass protection.

FYI. Our new logo..

Atlantic Now Has 4 Storms as We Enter Hurricane Peak month

We now have 4 active storms in the gulf and Atlantic. Fernand may impact South Texas and who knows what Gabrielle will threaten as Dorian rolls up the Atlantic coast. We also have an as yet unnamed tropical wave forming in the hot Atlantic. This is the peak of Hurricane season.

If we get one in the Gulf we could have less than 24 hours notice before it makes landfall – that was what happened with Harvey.

Don’t wait for one bearing down on us to call, because that is too late.

Here Comes Dorian – Aiming at Florida where we just finished project…

Just this month Armor Glass put our hurricane-rated security film on several stores for a client of ours who has locations in Florida including Jacksonville.

Today it appears that computer models show Jacksonville is in the red zone of Tropical storm Dorian which has the potential of becoming a hurricane before landfall.

The good news is that our security film is already working! No need to “board up” if it does hit. The film has passed the Miami Dade hurricane test and large missile impact tests in an independent lab.

We anchored the film to the frames with a structural sealant that looks like caulking but is far superior in that it not only seals from leaks, it is actually holding the film to the glass when wind-borne debris breaks the glass.

Normally when that happens all the glass breaks into small pieces and falls to the fall, leaving a gaping opening in which wind and rain rush. The wind tries to get out by pushing up on the roof. The rain makes mold and months of reconstruction necessary.

ALL of this is avoided with Armor Glass security film. Even if broken, the film provides a seal from the wind and rain. No uplift on the roof. No rain penetrating during a storm so no reconstruction required. Replace the broken glass, put on new Armor Glass security film and you are good to go again – safer and more secure because of Armor Glass.

We have seen how our competitors offer cheap film that tears apart and easily pulls off the glass. Not so with Armor Glass film – our 8 mil pulls off only after much struggle, and in one piece. It is the “Mercedes” of film, but comes at a price even Ford people can afford.

Check us out. If your job is too small and far away for us, we will try to help you find someone in your area to help, but that is never easy. Few people know about the technology and fewer still know how to properly install security film so it works properly.

For example, failure to apply frame bonding on a tempered glass will result in the glass falling out of the frame after impact, because it wasn’t anchored. Plate glass however does not require frame bonding.

Armor Glass is a registered U.S. trademark. Our security films (clear and tint versions) have prevented injuries and loss from hurricane-force storms, burglars and even children running into glass and breaking it –avoiding blood, screams, stitches and trips to the ER.

And when the storms like Dorian come, you don’t have to “board up” to prepare. You already are…

Record Tornadoes And Hurricane Season Starts with a Possible Storm

After 12 days of a record TORNADO outbreak wrecking buildings across the U.S., we now enter HURRICANE Season (combined with Tornadoes).  Tornadoes wreck buildings by throwing debris through windows, just like a hurricane.

Tomorrow June 1 Begins HURRICANE Season. It is 6 months of threat every year, year after year.

And right on cue we have a tropical depression in the Southern Gulf of Mexico. Unlike Atlantic storms these babies always go into either Mexico or Texas, depending on where they fire up.

The Gulf waters are HOT. They are 85 in Galveston. Any water temps over 80 degrees are jet fuel to these storms. That is what they feed on…the hotter the water the bigger the storm.

GET prepared! Aside from batteries, extra food, generators make sure to armor the weakest link of your house or building — its GLASS. Once it breaks due to wind-borne debris it is immediate UPLIFT ON THE ROOF. Not to mention the internal damages from wind and rain, mold – months of reconstruction due to a darn window break.  Forget all that with Armor Glass!

A 2004 study of the hurricanes that hit Florida found that WINDOW PROTECTION was key to surviving a big wind event. It didn’t matter if it was the expensive shutters, heavy plywood or the least costly option — Armor Glass security film — it all worked!

Armor Glass advantages is that it works 24/7 providing security while cutting solar heat and dangerous UV at the same time, and costs less than impact glass and shutters (substantially less). And it is also providing burglar break-in protection since they love how easy it is to get through ordinary window glass — in less than 1 second!

But do it NOW because its too late to call when the storm has a name. Protect your biggest asset. Armor Glass has been providing this protection for over a decade. Contact us today.
