Hurricane Prep and a Special Job at NASA

Hurricane IKE damage office buildings

This is how downtown Houston looked after Hurricane IKE hit in 2008. Had Armor Glass Security Film been on those windows, they would not have lost a single one, not even if broken! So get prepared for the next wind event – don’t count on it being a water event like Harvey.

Armor Glass just wrapped a job at the Neutral Buoyancy Lab for NASA in Houston (the first word uttered from the moon._ Got to see astronauts in training for space flights in a weightless environment.

It was a great honor that they sought us out specifically for this project (as they did in 2016 for the Mission Control section).

Turns out that the full-scale ISS is many times bigger than this pool! ISS is 450 feet long – about 1 and a half football fields.

The people were great. This is an area for visitors can come to watch. Check it out. #iss #nasa #NBL #armorglass

A Woman Home Alone Saved by…..Armor Glass Security Film

A woman was home alone in a high-end Sugar Land home when the doorbell rang. She didn’t answer it, assuming the person would go away. She went back to the bedroom near a wall of glass facing their pool when suddenly she heard something crash against the glass a few feet away.

Normally when that happens the paver (or rock) goes through the glass, the intruder follows it, and is gone within 2 minutes — long before any police can arrive. In this event, he would have run right into the woman. Nothing good would have come from it.

Instead, the paver bounced off the glass! The impact crashed startled here, causing her to scream. And the guy — who had assumed no one was home — took off!

Yes, it cracked the glass but there was no breach, no broken glass all over the room and in the carpet, no hole to worry about, no need to call the glass company for an emergency visit, no possibility that the rains later that day will come in and spread mold. No personal confrontation between the woman and the robber.

All because of a special high-tech, polycarbonate 8 Mil Security Film that “armors your glass,” every building’s weakest link. It is rated for Miami Dade Hurricane-force winds and “large missile” impacts (think rock or a brick). It was installed on her windows by Armor Glass just a few weeks earlier.  The same film was installed on the Pentagon and federal buildings after 911, yet it costs a fraction of impact glass and shutters that are three to ten times more per square foot. Those expensive options don’t cut the solar heat up to 50%, saving energy costs, or cut harmful UV 99% that causes skin cancer and furnishings to fade. Armor Glass Security Film does that.

All glass is fragile and an accident waiting to happen. When it fails in a hurricane, its goodbye house. Yet the cost of Armor Glass security film is so reasonable that retired teachers have had it installed. We have put it in schools for shooter protection (it delays the shooter at the glass entrance instead of blowing it out with a hail of bullets in one second.)  We have installed on glass at NASA’s Mission Control, numerous Whataburger’s, homes, storefronts, hospitals, offices and schools.

On a residence, it’s a lifetime warranty. On a commercial building, it’s 12 years. Armor Glass films have prevented numerous break-in attempts on homes, and storefronts while providing 24/7/365 hurricane-force wind protection. No need to “board up” for a storm. No need to try the suicide mission of lugging heavy wood or shutters up a ladder to second-story windows!

Think of Armor Glass security film as “invisible burglar bars” or “invisible shutters.” It has prevented little kids from being hurt–one ran into a glass wall right after we installed our film. Instead of blood, a ruined event and trip to ER (with rain coming in through the broken window) and triple overhead weekend charges, the child bounced off the film and was not harmed and the party went on. The broken glass was out of the child’s reach on the outside.

Why Every Piece of Glass Needs our Security Film

Man flying out a broken window
Don’t Leave Home Without It

As you can see from our friend in the photo, glass is fragile and dangerous, the weakest link of every building. It can leave you “hanging” with no support when you need it the most!

Every pane of glass on the planet needs Armor Glass Security Film on it to “armor” it from breaches by guys throwing a brick or by hurricane-force winds that destroy homes when flying debris breaches a glass door or window.

This was confirmed by a 2004 study of 4 hurricanes that hit Florida. The question was: WHY is that house still OK while the ones around it look like they were hit by a bomb?

The Answer: Window protection. If you had it, the building survived. If not, it didn’t. Then the question became: What KIND of window protection? Expensive shutters that rust and aren’t protecting anything while up? Or expensive laminated glass that requires special frames and still breaks, so it has to be replaced with a more expensive window? Heavy plywood that is a suicide mission to put on a second story and fills your garage or storage?

Or Security Film, which works 24/7/365 while it is also cutting solar heat and harmful UV, and costs a fraction of impact glass and shutters? And the answer is: It doesn’t matter! ANY protection is better than no protection. (Details in our book “Houses of Straw” on the website.)

Our Armor Glass Security Film has prevented numerous break-ins of both residential and commercial buildings. It provides protection from rioters throwing bricks, burglars who break in within a second or two and be gone within two minutes, hurricanes, tornadoes and heat. It cuts your energy bill because it rejects from 20% to 79% of the solar heat entering a building. It is carbon negative, saving more energy than it takes to make and install it.

Every piece of glass is an accident waiting to happen. “Armor your glass” with our security film to protect your major investment and “harden the building envelope.” The residential warranty is lifetime and the commercial warranty is 12-years. How to “Get Prepared” for Hurricane season

Its HURRICANE season folks. Get prepared. But what does “get prepared” include?  DON’T do what the guy in the photo is doing!

Obviously, it means having a plan. A “Go” bag for a quick departure if you are in the forecast zone for impact. But what about your biggest investment – your house? Or your office? How do you prepare it from hurricane-force winds?

The weakest link of every building is the glass – when it is breached by hurricane-force winds, the building is pressurized as the winds try to find a way out. That “out” is what uplifts the roof and pushes the walls out. When IKE hit Houston it blew out windows over 100 miles inland.

Plywood is heavy and expensive and a suicide mission to get on a 2nd floor. Shutters are very expensive and don’t protect from heat or burglars when up.

Security Film “armors the glass” from breach while at the same time it is cutting solar heat and UV from entering the building – or a burglar with a brick. It costs a fraction of impact glass or shutters.

Lets the first part of “getting prepared” you should do. Harden your buildings’ envelop by upgrading the glass which is an accident waiting to happen.

This also protects your home or office while you are gone. And saves on energy. Check us out at:

Traveling for Break In Protection – & Record Year for Hurricanes

The crew is in Austin this week working on a commercial/industrial building that has had issues with people jumping there fence and bashing in a window to steal stuff. Its a several day job.
A couple weeks ago we were in San Antonio putting our silver film on a religious building (sorry, but need to keep that confidential for their protection). They were worried about terrorism.
That is the great thing about our product – the same film protects from hurricanes as well as shooters.
In 2020 we had a record number of hurricanes – 30. Twelve (12) of them hit the USA and 3 hit Louisiana. Not to load you up with bad news but the weather pros say a “La Nina” is forming which will INCREASE next years Atlantic storm season, so the threat is growing.
Regardless of threat, human or from Mother Nature, Armor Glass security film is working 24/7/365 at the same time cutting solar heat and harmful UV, for a fraction of the cost of the alternative shutters and impact glass.
Protect your weakest link! Check us out at www.ArmorGlass.com

Coronavirus Leaves Empty Office Buildings ripe for Break-ins We Can Stop

Our crews continue to operate as we are an essential security industry. Hurricanes and burglars are not going to take a vacation due to a virus.  We are practicing social distancing and have always worked in isolation.

Coronavirus has emptied offices and buildings across America. Our products provide both security from break-ins and storm damage, but also saves energy and blocks harmful UV.

Coronavirus is a security threat in more ways than one.  Burglars prefer to strike empty buildings. Normally that means they hit homes during working hours and commercial buildings at night. With Covid19, everyone is staying home, so the vulnerable buildings are now closed storefronts and office buildings.

Empty buildings and reduced security personnel make them ripe for burglars to break in via the weakest link – the glass. It takes only a second to smash a large tempered glass window and be in and out of a space in less than a minute or two. It’s classic “smash and grab.”

Armor Glass (a U.S. registered Trademark) security films “armor the glass” to avoid the grab after the smash. They also cut solar heat and dangerous UV, saving energy at the same time, making it both security and carbon negative. It is the same film that was installed on the Pentagon and all federal buildings after 911 because it is also rated for explosions on top of hurricane-force winds and large missile impact.

That’s why we also put it on schools for shooter protection — as we are this week while the school is closed. We are an essential industry providing security by hardening your buildings’ protective envelop from breach by humans and mother nature.

Few people are aware of this technology that is a vast improvement over thin solar films that only block the sun but have zero security properties. Armor Glass does both!

Coronavirus Update – It won’t stop Threats from burglars and hurricane-force winds

Our past crazy week.

Things are popping here at Armor Glass despite the coronavirus. In the past WEEK, we:

  • adopted an updated New logo that you can’t miss – makes it clear we sell a film that armors glass, not glass.
  • We acquired a New automated software program for handling our inquiries, work orders, scheduling – it lets us create and send work orders while tracking how well sales reps are doing and what taxes we owe. It does everything but make coffee, so thankfully it won’t take that job from me! All of it automatically goes to Quickbooks.  The paperwork burden was just cut 80% or more.   We STARTED training on it today.

Last Tuesday I was sent an email about a large project in another city – they had already done the walkthrough and perhaps they weren’t impressed with who turned up. They must have found us online because they sent us an email invitation to bid, with the bid date extended to give us only a few days to meet it (one week).

With the uncertainty about coronavirus possibly impacting our business, I did not want to pass it up.  Besides, we are one of the few companies certified by the manufacturer to install security film and one of fewer still who do it 100% of the time.  Not having us bid is almost negligence on their part! Lol.

So I drove for 8 hours Thursday on a beautiful day and got to the project city. Then in the night, the skies opened up as if we are under a nonstop waterfall. It continued all day Friday while I reviewed the project, trying not to get sick for obvious reasons as I had to duck in and out of buildings and get to the open parking lot without drowning.

Visual inspection of the building revealed that it has far more windows than the architect and documents say. Oops.  We spent one last night under pounding rain with thunder, lighting and a non-stop assault of cold rain on the RV, with the heater going full blast. We woke up to a chilly wet 41 degrees.

So I drive back 8 hours Saturday after taking dogs for a break in the rain. They were not excited about it but did their business like good little boys, jumped back in the RV, got under their blankets and we rolled back to home base. By the time we hit Texas, the rain had gone and the air was getting warmer and more comfortable. It felt great!

Compiled project size numbers on Sunday.  On Monday, double-checked the numbers and completed all paperwork — but could not get a bid bond in time due to coronavirus slowdown; their agents were home and could not access the office system, so I had to send the quote to meet the deadline with a cashiers check for 5% as a guarantee that we can perform (that was first time in 12 years anyone even asked for a bond).

Today it is sunny in Houston and we are working online and the phone as always. Since our crew always works isolated, that isn’t a problem.

Our sales rep team is also self-isolating as recommended, but meeting with potential clients is still OK since it is less than 10 people and no one will be shaking hands. I like the idea of doing the hands folded Namaste greeting for a while. Lol.

Standby for updates. One of our delayed projects is a school, which may remain empty for a month, or more. The world has gone upside down.

But viruses won’t stop burglars and the next round of hurricane-force winds from jeopardizing peoples’ security. Don’t stay home or leave it without Armor Glass protection.

FYI. Our new logo..

Armor Glass Beats the HEAT while Defending Glass from Storms/Burglars

Armor Glass has made a major upgrade to our installation team, which now has over 20 years experience installing Security Window Film.

This summer we have been putting it on schools across Texas (who shall remain anonymous for security reasons) as well as houses and a famous restaurant chain.

Our Solar security film will also cut 50% of that SUPER Heat over 2/3’s of our nation is suffering under. That means your AC only has to cool HALF the heat that was coming through your windows before Armor Glass Solar Security Film was installed.

It is also screening out 99% of harmful UV that not only fades your furnishings but is the No. 1 cause of skin cancer, so you can enjoy the view from your windows without being fried by the sun.

Ask for a quote – cut the heat while “armoring your glass” from intrusion by hurricane-tornado force winds and humans with a brick. Founded by a 911 Terrorism Analyst in 2007…

Australia’s CAT 4 storms – Sign of things to come for our summer storms

Two words: Prepare NOW.

Australia has the opposite seasons as us. They are peaking out their storm season with CAT 4 hurricanes bashing the coast (they call them ‘cyclones’ south of the equator but its the same thing.) One landed with winds of 155 miles per hour!

Their summer now is a prelude to what our summer will be like in the coming months as the seasons rotate. If their experience tells us anything, PREPARE for the worst and hope for the best.

Hurricane winds destroy buildings by breaking the glass, causing uplift on the roof.  Save the glass, save the building.

Armor Glass is designed to “armor the glass” you have with our high tech, high strength, impact-rated security films that also cut solar heat and dangerous UV. All for a fraction of what shutters and impact glass costs — with none of the pain of messing with heavy, ugly plywood.

The same film has kept BURGLARS from breaking in and is also used by SCHOOLS for shooter protection. What else does all that?

Ask for free quote today. Because if we get a CAT 4 storm, it is too late to call.

Why are you living in a “House of Straw”?

People don’t know it, but they are living in “Houses of Straw.” Remember the “Three Little Pig” story? One pig built a house of straw, one built a house of sticks and one built a house of bricks. The bad wolf ate the first two. But frankly, if the third pig had bricks and glass, the wolf would have easily broken the glass and eaten him too.

Burglars love your glass. One hit and its GONE. In 2 minutes they are GONE, with your stuff. Armor Glass security film has foiled them on countless occasions including storefronts and homes.

When a hurricane comes, your house is still a “House of Straw” – just one piece of windborne debris breaking the weakest link of your building –its glass — is the beginning of the end. Not only is glass, rain and wind now blowing in, the wind is also looking for a way OUT. That “out” is pushing up your roof, blowing out your walls. Internal damages at best and structural collapse at worse. Game over –unless you had Armor Glass “armoring that glass.”

Storm Window Protection

I’ve seen shooters blow out glass doors that our film would have held together. I’ve seen hurricanes blow out windows that ripped up the roof. I’ve seen the ugly scene after burglars have broken a glass wall and hauled off a store owners good — and I’ve seen our film prevent the next break-in after it was installed!

Armor Glass kept a burglar from breaking in on a woman home alone. It stopped a out-of-control motorcycle from bashing through the glass of a restaurant chain a month after we installed it, saving the customers from injury and death and the company millions in legal and medical expenses.

Don’t leave home without Armor glass. The live and property is saves could be yours.
