Hurricane Prep and a Special Job at NASA

Hurricane IKE damage office buildings

This is how downtown Houston looked after Hurricane IKE hit in 2008. Had Armor Glass Security Film been on those windows, they would not have lost a single one, not even if broken! So get prepared for the next wind event – don’t count on it being a water event like Harvey.

Armor Glass just wrapped a job at the Neutral Buoyancy Lab for NASA in Houston (the first word uttered from the moon._ Got to see astronauts in training for space flights in a weightless environment.

It was a great honor that they sought us out specifically for this project (as they did in 2016 for the Mission Control section).

Turns out that the full-scale ISS is many times bigger than this pool! ISS is 450 feet long – about 1 and a half football fields.

The people were great. This is an area for visitors can come to watch. Check it out. #iss #nasa #NBL #armorglass

Nashville Bombing – How Armor Glass protects from Level 2 explosion

This is a video of the Nashville bomb blast – blowing out the glass windows with the blast pressure wave, turning a peaceful scene into hell instantly.

There is a way to protect yourself from this.

Armor Glass security film is applied to the glass and bonded to the frames with a special sealant. It is rated for a Level 2 explosion. It is “armoring the glass” you have. In a bomb blast, hurricane-force winds, or tornado impact, the film contains the broken glass. The structural sealant bonding anchors it to the window frame.

In other words, if people were inside this building when the blast hit and Armor Glass film was on the windows and doors, they could have survived —  instead of being shredded with glass as this video demonstrates.

That is why this same security film was put on the Pentagon and all federal buildings after 911, starting in 2002. They wanted the blast protection and the same film is still working today. We use it for hurricane and burglar protection as well and for school shooters.

While this blast remains a mystery at the time of this writing, the video does show vividly why our special security film is needed on every pane of glass in the country to save lives and property. It is affordable, unlike armored glass that no one can afford. Once the walls are breached by the blast wave, no one inside has a chance; the instant pressurization will raise the roof and blow out walls, just like what happens when a hurricane or tornado breaches your glass.

With Armor Glass security film on your weakest link, you are a lot safer 24/7/365 than without it.

Record Number of Hurricanes 2020 Getting STRONGER

We just hit the “W” of hurricane names – a full month ahead of the record set in 2005. Hurricanes are more numerous and now more powerful in force than ever before. Once they break your glass, the winds pressurize the building and blow it apart. Game over.

Armor that glass. The storms aren’t slowing down or getting weaker, just the opposite.  Read the article here.

COVID19 and Hurricane Season Above Average – We are Essential. Safety Comes First

ARMOR GLASS STATEMENT ON COVID19 –We are  Open and Essential.

Yet Safety of Crew and Customers is No. 1 Priority

Burglar breach front glass retail

As a security company, we remain open and essential. However, we are taking precautions to ensure the safety of our crew and clients. Our crews are self isolating until they can be assigned a safe job with clients who have been self-isolating for a minimum of 30 days.

Mother Nature is not going to give us a break despite COVID. Hurricane season will not be going away just because it would be really inconvenient to pile another disaster on top of another.

The BAD News is that Hurricane activity is predicted to be “ABOVE-Average” this year! I would be happy with “normal” but prepare for the worst and hope for the best (not the other way around).

Imagine how hard it would be to isolate if a hurricane blows out your windows and lifts your roof? With no power. We have already seen tornadoes rip apart buildings where people were self-isolating.

Don’t count on burglars to be isolating. They won’t be focused on homes because they know everyone is home! They focus on empty places with easy access to smash and grab glass windows and doors. In and out in less than 2 minutes! (Armor Glass messes that up bigtime).

We are getting calls from major chains that have been targeted by specialized crooks. Armor Glass security film is one part of that defense system (which should also include motion detection, etc.). So, security remains an issue due to continuing threats to our buildings that are all sitting ducks with fragile glass.

So with COVID, we are screening before committing to sending a crew. Our minimum safe zone is those people who have been in isolation 30 days or more. The other option is if we are installing in an empty building (like a church or school.)

Tornadoes just tore apart more buildings in large chunks of eastern America. NOW is prime time for these killers. They kill buildings the same way hurricanes do –by throwing wind-borne debris through your glass–destroying its “shield” which opens a hole for high-speed winds to roar inside, carrying glass and rain with it. That wind is pressurizing your building –like blowing up a balloon until it pops. That’s when up goes the roof and walls are pushed out. All in the blink of an eye.

“Armor the glass!” Protect the house and office from breach of its weakest link which even children can break. There is no better or more affordable solution. Armor Glass film also saves money by cutting solar heat and UV.

In the meantime, keep isolating so we can “flatten the curve on COVID” and the sooner we can get back to normal again

Testing 8 Mil Armor Glass vs. 4 Mil Junk Our Competitors are Pushing that FAIL large impact test.

Instead of offering certified large missile impact film to customers seeking security for their weakest link from storms or human intrusion, many of our competitors are offering a fraud — a cheap substitute 4 or 6 mil product that FAILS impact tests.

Often they claim that their product is “just as good” as ours. It is happening even today. They know thinner films are cheaper. Its a con and a lie that these thin films will provide security on glass.  Click to see our 1 minute video testing 8 mil versus 4 mil versus bare glass. Click here to see video proof in a little over 1 minute.

In this actual test on a residence, we put 8 mil and some 4 mil film on the windows of a house for one of our sales reps. He was planning to get new windows so we used his old windows for a test of 8 Mil vs. 4 mil (and bare glass) when a large missile hits it. For our “missile” we used a brick which is close to the 4.5 lb. Level C (ASTM 1886/1996 standard). So, on the day he was getting new windows we did this test to break his windows and see what happens.

In about 1 minute in this video you will see that Armor Glass 8 mil security film worked, as it has for many of our clients over the years.

But the brick went through the window with 4 mil film like a hot knife through butter! Was saving some money buying an inferior substitute really worth the pain of a failure during a break-in (or a storm throwing wind-borne debris through your windows).

Don’t fall for the con! Insist on 8 Mil certified Armor Glass security film. More details at our website: www.ArmorGlass.com

Active Shooter – What you need to know..

Yesterday I attended a program on Active Shooter training –not for schools, but for COMPANIES.

He talked about how training is critical to prepare people HOW to respond. Because without it, people will “FREEZE UP” and fail to act that can result in more deaths.
For example, he cited a security guard who saw a employee point a gun at his head, then go into the building after he ran away. Instead of notifying anyone, he paced back and forth for 5 minutes, doing NOTHING. He had not been trained properly. His brain “froze” and he didn’t know what to do. The shock of a gun in his face had un-nerved him.
But here is the key thing: EVERYONE needs the training, not just security or the owner. When students were startled by a surprise mock attack by a gun-man, many sat in their desks, texting mom and dad!

Holy crap Batman, MOVE! JUMP! RUSH OUT. DO something! Don’t just sit there being a target while you call home. First RUN. Then HIDE. If you are facing an attacker with no escape route FIGHT! If he stops to reload, that’s your time to either fight or flee.
Installing hurricane film, Chase Bank, Long Island NY
Armor Glass film is being used on storefronts and on glass in schools to delay shooters from blowing out the glass and walking in one second later. Our product keeps them at the entrance longer, where police can see them and engage. But people need more than our protection for these horrible events.
They need to know WHAT TO DO when this happens – because it keeps happening. Simple “table top exercises” are meaningless because they don’t show people how to act under stress. Stress exposure training is a vital component, like the pilot who learns how to handle an airplane in a stall until the reaction is automatic.
Last comment. Don’t ever have a practice drill that no one knows about. That leads to disaster (not to mention possible heart attacks.) Professionals make sure everyone is aware of a drill LONG BEFORE it is scheduled.

Look for a consultant who knows the protocols to use.

Vital Items for Your Storm Emergency Kit

When storms hit these are 3 things to include in your Storm Emergency Kit.

No. 1. Hurricanes and tornadoes destroy building when wind-borne debris breaks the weakest link, the glass. Those winds look for a way out and the easy way out is to uplift the roof. That immediately allows internal damages from flying glass and water, mold, etc. So, “armor that glass” with our 8 mil Clear (cuts 21% of solar heat) or Solar tint (cuts 50% of solar heat) which is hurricane-explosion-large missile impact-rated.  No need to “board up!” And, as you can see, it can fit any size glass of any shape. It even curves!

When Hurricane IKE and Harvey hit Houston, people lost power for days – some for two weeks. The same happened when Hurricane Michael hit Florida.  When IKE cut my power, I had to plug it into my car charger and hope I didn’t run out of gas or run down my battery.

No. 2. So I found this solar charger for cell phones.

No. 3. But then I found something even better – a device on Amazon that is a radio, a cell phone charger, a flashlight, and a siren. It can charge by hand-crank, sun-power and it also has a place for a battery (even recharge-ables).  This device is small enough to take on trips or camping so you don’t run out of phone power in event of an emergency. This will give people weather information and keep their phones working when there is no other power.

Get prepared!  When the storm comes its too late to call or go shopping for emergency supplies.

TORNADO Outbreak

Armor Glass film is not just for hurricane protection or keeping shooters from breaching the glass. It can also protect from vicious TORNADOES.

Tornadoes kill building just like hurricanes. They throw windborne debris though the glass. That instantly UPLIFTS the roof and its goodbye building.  If you “armor the glass” your building has a better chance of surviving those winds then with regular glass–like this high rise in Dallas that had windows stripped out by tornado winds.

TEXAS actually has the HIGHEST number of reports of Tornadoes (131) according to this NOAA report.

Our 8 mil film has passed the ASTM 1886/1996 Large Missile Impact test (4.5 lb. Level C).  Compare that to what happens when a two x four hits a regular double-pane glass window in the photo below–it goes through the unprotected window, but stops at the window with Armor Glass film bonded to the frame!
